Let’s Walk and Talk

Walk-and-talk Therapy and Coaching are just like they sound—the client and the therapist walk outside during therapy instead of sitting inside an office.

Walk Talk Therapy or Coaching is a mindfulness-based body-oriented therapy. It allows clients to relax, stop ruminating, release physical tension, breathe deep and receive mind-body insight while processing experiences in an alternative way compared to traditional talk therapy or coaching. Nature can be a powerful tool to center and embrace your inner self. In addition, walking is a tool that is widely researched and accepted to regulate emotions enhancing the overall therapeutic experience.

I help individuals living in or visiting Steamboat Springs, Colorado restore balance in their mental and emotional health through traditional talk therapy with a twist–I take therapy off the couch, outside on the core trail, Spring Creek, or a neighborhood walk. Walk-and-talk therapy offers a refreshing alternative to traditional therapy or coaching.

Walking side by side, we'll discuss what comes to mind for you that day in the context of your overall goals, just as if we were sitting inside an office. Sometimes we might take a few moments to stand in silent reflection, deep breathe, or sit in guided visualization.

The walk can be in lieu of an office appointment or accompany an office appointment. It is typically 30-50 minutes in length. It is available in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, or virtually!

Many clients say Walk + Talk Therapy is more relaxed than the counseling office. Others state that it is a great way to jump-start or support a fitness routine or active lifestyle. Walking while sharing your struggles and life situations can be very meditative.

Walk + Talk therapy has several benefits. These benefits include, but are not limited to the following:

  • It combines the therapeutic benefits of traditional counseling with moderate exercise (i.e., walking) in a natural setting.

  • It encourages you to be more physically active for mental and physical reasons.

  • It helps you to get "unstuck" when confronting difficult issues.

  • It spurs creative, deeper ways of thinking often released by mood-improving physical activity.

  • “Exposure to nature has been linked to a host of benefits, including improved attention, lower stress, better mood, reduced risk of psychiatric disorders, and even upticks in empathy and cooperation,” according to the American Psychologist Association.

  • Providing yourself space to mindfully walk outside or within nature can have a profound impact on the mind and body.

Movement propels people forward -- literally and figuratively. So let's get you moving in the right direction to create fulfilling and lasting change.
